Harper Lake Since 1990s, the Lake has been dry. At one time, Harper Dry Lake was a marsh that got
its water from the runoff from alfalfa farming known as Lockhart Ranch. When the ranch closed in the 1990s the lake dried up.
Today with the help from nonprofit organizations and the the federal Bureau of Land Management water is be pumped into the lake
bed to once again create a marsh like desert oasis. A place for people who like to watch birds and view wildlife.
In 1989 and 1990, the two largest solar fields in the world were built at Harper Lake. The plants have
a combined electrical capacity of 160 MW. The site was selected because of high solar levels, water resources, electric transmissions
facilities and natural gas lines. |
